Hot Gigs and Cold Crypts

It was a joy to get together with Attila and the Djabe guys again. Following a day of rehearsals in Budapest, we all set off for Vienna, Austria. There, Jo and I met up with Jonas Reingold and another pal Ottar Olaussen. Jonas, who lives in Vienna, took us all to the huge Gothic cathedral and down into the depths beneath to experience the labyrinth of crypts and catacombs, replete with thousands of human bones, the eye sockets of many appearing to stare out through the gloom... But the Porgy and Bess club gig close by was totally full of life! The Djabe boys put on a great show and Jonas played a blinder with us all on the encore!

We then went on to Olomouc in the Czech Republic to play to another enthusiastic crowd...

The final gig of this mini tour was in the historic Hungarian town of Györ, and received an equally strong response!

The following day, Attila took Jo and me to see the beautiful Pannonhalma Archabbey, which functions to this day for Benedictine monks. Attila's father was an artist, and the vaulted ceilings, including those of the church crypt, had inspired some of his exquisite mystical paintings. The large Baroque style library was inspirational too, and there was a spectacular panoramic view from the high abbey walls.

It was a whirlwind tour, but rewarding with those intriguing trips, fabulous musical adventures and welcoming crowds!

Jo and I thank Attila and all the Djabe team for such a fabulous time...
