Spanish spirit rising... August 12

Alhambra vista

Magical heart of the palace
On a short visit to Granada in Andalusia with Jo I knew beforehand it was going to be a kind of pilgrimage...
Following Segovia's footsteps into the Alhambra, straight away the notebook was out as acoustic guitar ideas came flooding in from the fountains and gardens, awash with colour. As we wandered through courtyards and corridors of the ancient Moorish palace, echoes of the Arabian Nights bounced off every decorated alcove and star-spun ceiling. The whole place is a treasure trove of inspiration.
Having written the lyrics for "Nomads" together, it was a very special experience for Jo and me to share that evening when we climbed through a labyrinth of tiny cobbled streets to visit the gypsy caves of the Sacromonte. Here we were treated to the fiery cry of flamenco. Amazing guitar playing accompanied whirling, furious dancing. It was so powerful, as if their lives depended on every step.
To say we were spellbound would be an understatement. From the heartbeat of Spain. Extraordinary Andalusia... a garden of light, a cry from the heart.
