Battersea Power Station

Battersea Power Station

'The Wheel's Turning' is a song with a lighter feel to many of the more gothic, primal or cinematic tracks on my new album 'Wolflight'. The lyric video depicts its fairground focus as we enter the crystal ball to another time... This song is nostalgic, with a slightly dark edge. It's about my childhood heaven of Battersea Funfair which provided a fantastic colourful contrast to the surrounding grey area, weighed down by the smog from the gigantic Battersea Power Station with it's four enormous chimneys belching out black smoke.

Today the power station is a skeletal hulk, a memorial to its former self. Battersea Funfair closed down many years ago after a fatal accident on the roller coaster. I feel the ghosts of times gone by whistling through the breeze when I visit the place remembering the music, with both the thrill and the danger of those rides. I think of the grotto that terrified me, but also the tremendous kaleidoscope of colour that hit me on entering the fairground. It was a whole world in itself and one that will always stay with me.
