Greek Fire - June 2014

In the cave...

Exploring Olympia
In the wake of the six week tour I plunged back into recording my new album, but it's been great to re-charge the batteries on a long weekend break in Greece...
Jo and I joined our friends Angéla and Maurizio for an exciting adventure back to the Korykion Cave near spectacular Delphi on Mount Parnassos. To avoid the long trek on foot Jo and I made last time, we hired a jeep, which just about made it up the steep rocky incline! It was great to return this time with torches, so we could all explore the back part of the main cave, full of the most extraordinary formations, some appearing like monsters and others like winged goddesses. Here our pals took some awe inspiring photos for something special down the line...
We also crossed the Gulf of Corinth over the amazing new bridge to Olympia, where the original Olympic Games took place. Even today, the Olympic flame is always lit in Olympia and then transported, constantly burning to wherever the games are taking place. Olympia is a beautiful place, and impressive. The stadium there held 45,000 spectators!
Whilst we were still in Greece the news was released about the BBC Genesis documentary and I'm thrilled to see all the joyful responses to this. It somehow made the Greek sun shine ever more brightly!
Now home and immediately back to recording in the studio, but filled with the inspiration of that wonderful place, with a whole host of new musical ideas...
