Revisits and New Journeys - July 13

Steve and Paul Green on the DVD edit

A world of possibilities...
It's been a busy but fascinating time since I took a break from touring.
I immediately threw myself into working on the DVD plus CD of the live Genesis Revisited show at Hammersmith Apollo. Ben Fenner has now finished doing both the 5.1 mix for DVD and the stereo mix for CD. Even though I've heard this stuff many times, it's still a delight to my ears.
The DVD looks particularly special. Paul Green of Cybertech has done a great job with the filming and editing. I enjoyed going through it with him at his facility in Cheshire. He's also created a fun and informative supporting feature on the show including additional footage and interviews with all band members plus several of the special guests. The whole package really highlights the incredible atmosphere of that gig, with all the spectacular visuals and lights as well as the exceptional sound and tremendously enthusiastic audience. It's a precious document of an unforgettable evening.
In addition, a new solo album is beginning to form. Every morning I've woken up with new ideas, the guitar is out all the time, Jo and I are already completely immersed in new lyrical and melodic ideas. The pen is flowing, fingers are flying and I've started work with Roger in the studio on the first track. At least five more songs are now ready to record and several demon riffs are threatening to run amok... Travelling can really help inspire ideas, which come from all over the globe. Meeting musicians from many places too, from Azerbaijan to India, from the States to Africa, ideas have been flooding in with a multitude of instruments and cultural influences. I recently had an extraordinary dream about cables of light all linked together like some kind of cosmic DNA, and that's the sense of this musical melting pot. Once again that familiar feeling at the beginning of every album that a world of possibilities is opening up...
At this time of revisits and new paths, our team continues to ride this buoyant wave, bringing the Genesis Revisited show to as many places as possible. In a few days our own travelling night circus will be back on the road in Germany, Italy and France...
